Suidoosterfees is one of the country’s biggest events on the Afrikaans Arts & Culture calendar.

The festival showcases music, drama and all things arts. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers saw it fit to create a drive-in experience to keep to the safety protocol, but also to keep the arts alive.

I was privileged enough to be part of the Gospel segment of the festival amongst my colleagues and dear friend Jonathan Rubain. The people had enjoyed the segment so much that they could not help but get out of their cars to dance and sing along with great enthusiasm. This brought me great encouragement and hope, especially to be able to contribute to the Suidoosterfees in such trying times for the Arts during Covid-19.

Performing at the Suidoosterfees was definitely a different experience for me as an artist. I enjoyed that it was an open air event, that it was well organised and well controlled. Overall, it was a blessed and uplifting experience.
